Individual:
JOHN KEELING moved with his father and mother to South Carolina in 1817, and then to Shelby co., IN, in 1822; farmer and minister; bur. Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Geneva, Shelby co., IN, along with Rebecca. The family moved to Blannahassette Island, VA, then to a place on the Ohio River near Cincinnati, OH. He then bought eighty acres of land at Flatrock, IN, where he lived nineteen years; then sold out and went to Switzerland co., IN, where he first began doing ministerial work in 1840 with the Separate Baptists. He then moved to 100 acres of well cultivated land in Shelby co., IN. (Had a grandson living with him in 1880 - ETHAN KEELING, age 8)
.........John started in life very poor, but by hard work saved some money and entered eighty acres of land at Flatrock. He lived here nineteen years, then sold out and went to Switzerland County, where he first began doing ministerial work in 1840, with the Separate Baptists. After this he moved to his present home, where he owns 100 acres of well cultivated land. During the last three years he has accepted no regular pastoral work, but previous to this time had three or four churches. He has been a great revivalist.
