Margaret Clare (Harris) Scranton wrote to David F. Scranton (1/99): "Did your Dad or I ever relate to you that when his Grandma & Grandpa Scranton lived in Centralia & when the stock market crashed in the 1920's, Grandpa committed suicide, jumping from a bldg., I believe. They had been fairly wealthy (lumber) and he lost everything (as many people did).
Mrs. Wayne L. (Pat) Baxter, 6610 Stanton Court, SW, Tumwater, WA 98501 prepared a genealogy which indicated that Harry Levi Scranton died June 3, 1952 in Tacoma, Washington. However, that is not consistent with the above recollection.
Margaret Clare (Harris) Scranton wrote to David F. Scranton (1/99): Grandma Scranton was living when your Dad & I married in 1949 & embroidered pillow cases for us. She must have died shortly after, as I never met her." This recollection is inconsistent with the recollection of Harvard Freeman Scranton (Sr.) that his mother died when he was 2 - thus, 1909. One possibility (most likely) is that she was remembering Harvard Freeman Scranton, Jr.'s great-grandmother, Hulda Sprague, who died in 1950 (one year after the wedding) --- rather than his grandmother, who appears to have died in 1909. Another possibility is that Harry Levi Scranton remarried after Minnie Johnson died, and that the second wife survived him.

Hi, David. No problem. Just for fun I ran the 1880 census for Clark Co., WI and came up with the
following. I hope it is your family. I also have access to the 1850 Indiana census images if you find this is your family. Always glad to help a fellow researcher.
Washburn Twp., Clark Co., WI, p. 462C
SCRANTON, M., lumbering, self, male, md, white, age 40y, b. IN, both parents b. IN
SCRANTON, Hulda, keeping house, female, md, white, age 24y, b. IA, both parents b. IN
SCRANTON, William, son, male, white, age 17y, b. IA, fa. b. IN, mo. b. IA (marital status missing)
SCRANTON, George, son, male, single, white, age 7y, b. IA, fa. b. IN, mo. b. IA
SCRANTON, C. Henrey, son, male, single, white, age 2y, b. WI, fa. b. IN, mo. b. IA
SCRANTON, May Vivan, dau., female, single, white, age 2M, b. WI, fa. b. IN, mo. b. IA
MCADAMS, R., laborer, other, male, single, white, age 29y, b. PA, both parents b. PA
Let me know if this helps! These new 1880 Census CDs are great.
Take care.

Shown as "Harry Scranton" in 1910 U.S. Census for Greenwood Precinct, Lewis County, Washington. Occupation "logjacker". "Logjack," in timber harvesting terms, means a tool used to raise a log from the ground during bucking; similar to a peavey, but with a flattened steel loop on the underside so when the hook fastens into a log on the ground and thehandle is lowered, the log is jacked up and remains elevated on the jack. This indicates that, in 1910, Harry was a laborer, not a mill owner.
