Died: July 26th, 1917 National Home Milwaukee WS. 93 yrs old. A soldier in both the Mexican War and Civil War. There is a letter written by him probably for his pension describing his Mexican War experiences. He was married to a Cornelia Cary who died in 1852. He was related to her mother Lodemia (Eells) also from Perrysburg, , NY. He was given the rank of Sgt in the 15th IL Inf Co. E. He was promoted to the rank of 1st Lt. He also reenlisted into the 147th IL Inf Co. I toward the end of the War. He had a brother George Waterman Eells that served with him in the Mexican War and was wounded at the Battle of Resaca, GA and died of wounds May 22, 1864 while serving with the 42nd IL Inf Co. D. In his document he mentions going to Chicago with a man named Cary to deliver products in June 1846. He joined the army and went on to Mexico. He got sick with fever and was being buried when his two comrades noticed he was still breathing. They sent him back to New Orleans to be brought back to health. A brunet tried to make him stay but he caught a steamer for St. Louis and said he would never forget her.
