20. JOSEPH WATERMAN (Joseph (2) Robert'), born at Marshfield MA. 2 Jan. 1676, died there 23 Nov. 1715 in 39th yr. (gravestone); married at Marshfield, 16 June 1709, LUSANNA Snow, born at Marshfield, 7 Mar. 1682/3, died at Pembroke MA., 7 Mar. 1732" aged 49 (gravestone), daughter of Josias and Rebecca (Baker) Snow. She married second, at Marshfield, 3 June 1723, Thomas Tracy, born about 1688, died at Pembroke, 8 Dec. 1755, son Johns (3) (John2, Stephen') [see Tracy Family in Appendix].
Joseph Waterman joined the Marshfield Church, 11 Apr. 1708. On May 1716, "Lusanna Waterman was baptised and had the same day had 2 children baptised called Abigail and Abia." Joseph Waterman of Marshfield, yeoman, and Lusannah his wife, coveyed to John Little of Marshfield, 29 Jan. 1710/11; witnesses, John Waterman, Anthony Waterman. On 10 May 1712, "Nathanael Winslow and Lydia his wife, Gilbert Winslow and Mary his wife, Sam Baker and Sarah his wife, Joseph Waterman and Lusanna his wife, John Sprague and Bethia his wife, and William Carver as Guardian of Abiah Snow, heirs of Josiah Snow late of Marshfield deceased," made a mutual agreement of division of a tract that formerly belonged to Anthony Snow deceased. (Deeds, Plymouth Co., 9-208; 10-375.] On 18 and 30 Sept. 1713, Joseph Waterman of Marshfield MA.. bought land in Norwich, Conn., of James Bichard, Thomas Waterman, Samuel Post, and Joseph Armstrong. When he died in 1715, this land fell to his two daughters, Abigail Magoun and Abiah Eells. On 22 May 1734, the Magouns sold their half to Joseph Waterman and Zebulon Waterman of Marshfield. On 30 Aug. 1735, Zebulon sold his part to his brother Joseph; and on 12 Dec. 1735, John Eells and Abiah his wife, and Joseph Waterman, divided the land; and then, the same day, John and Abiah Eells sold their part to Zebulon Waterman. [Land Rec. Norwich, 2B-686, 689, 690, 692; 7-109, 335, 269, 337.) Inventory taken 11 Jan. 1715/16 of the estate of Joseph Waterman, yeoman, late deceased in Marshfield, sworn to 17 Jan. 1715 by Lucanna Waterman, the widow. Debts due from the estate: Peter Hain, 30 shillings; John Tracy of Norwich, 5.35 lbs. An account of the land belonging to the estate includes, "At Norwich in CT Government five lots of land containing 299 acres." On 17 Jan. 1715/1716, Nathaniel Winslow and Kenelm Winslow, both of Marshfield, were appointed guardians of Joseph Waterman's daughter Abigail, "an infant about a year old," application having been made by her mother, Lucy Anna Waterman; and they were also appointed guardians of Joseph Waterman's daughter Abia, about five years old. [Probate Rec. Plymouth Co., 3-390, 397.] The real estate was divided, 22 Apr. 1731, into two equal parts; one share each to Abigail Magoon the wife of Mr. John Magoun junr. of Scituate and to Abiah Eells the wife of Mr. John Eells of Scituate, the only children of the said Joseph Waterman deceased. "Mrs. Lusanna Tracy now the wife of Mr. Thomas Tracy of Marshfield, who was the widow of the aforenamed Joseph Waterman," had resigned her dower right to her aforesaid daughters. [ib., 7-88, 89.] Marshfield Church Records: Sara Tracy was baptized 22 Mar. 1719; probably she was the sister of Thomas Tracy. On 13 Sept. 1724, "Thomas Tracy and his wife Lusanna confessed their sin of fornification before they were marryed, to the satisfaction of the church." Thomas Tracy, "a grown person," baptized 11 Oct. 1724. Joseph's number in the Mayflower Index is 36,881; Lusanna Snow's number is 31,587. She was his first cousin, her father being a son of Anthony and Abigail (Warren) Snow. Anthony Snow and his son Josias both died in Aug. 1692. Lusanna's second husband survived her and died 8 Dec. 1755. Administration on the estate of Thomas Trasey of Pembrooke, Yeoman, was granted, 5 Jan. 1756, to Asaph Trasey of Pembrooke, mariner. 161 JOSEPH WATERMAN 4 (SarahSnow3, Abigail2,Warren, Richard ) b. Marshfield 2 or 20 Jan. 1676; d. there 23 Nov. 1715 in 39th yr. He m. Marshfield 16 June 1709 LUSANNA SNOW, b. Marshfield 7 March 1682/3; d. Pembroke 7 March 1732 aged 49 yre.; dau. of Josiah and Rebecca (Barker) Snow (see #153), a descendant of Pilgrim Richard Warren. On 10 May 1712 Joseph Waterman and Lusanna his wife, and others, made an agreement as heirs of Josiah Snow, about a tract that formerly belonged to Anthony Snow deceased. She m. (2) Marshfield 3 June 1723 Thomas Tracy by whom she had Asaph.
The inventory of the estate of Joseph Waterman was taken 11 Jan. 1715/6, sworn 17 Jan. 1715/6 by Lucanna Waterman, widow. The real estate was divided 22 April 1731 between Abigail Magoon, wife of Mr. John Magoun Jr. of Scituate & Abiah Eells, wife of Mr. John Eells of Scituate, only children of Joseph Waterman dec. Mrs. Lusanna Tracy, now the wife of Thomas Tracy of Marshfield, who was widow of Joseph Waterman, resigned her dower right.
