Eells Family Genealogy 1633-1952

The seventh generation we reach the place where many now living can remember the persons whom we record. They were living through the period of the Civil War, and were instrumental in it as well as in the reconstruction after that war. The following members of this generation served as soldiers in the War of 1812: Benjamin Beard Eells, Mead Eells, Samuel Eells, Benjamin Marvin Eells, Nathaniel Gray Eells, Jairus Palmer, husband of an Eells, Nathan Eells, Pitkin Eells,

In the War with Mexico the following served: Mead Eells, George Waterman Eells, John Lewis Eells, Simeon Levi Eells, (George and Simeon are brothers)

The following sons of the Seventh Generation served in the Civil War: John Eells, Capt. Arthur D. Eells, Joseph Eells Nash, Waterman Eells (1st Lt Co. B 15th IL Vet Vol Inf. captured at Big Santy (Kennesaw Mt. GA and spent time in Andersonville prison and Millan Prison. Paroled from Jacksonville FL and died on way home to , NY.) George Waterman Eells (1st Sgt 42nd IL Inf died of wounds at Reseca, GA,) and Lancing Eells 1st Sgt. enlisted three times 15th IL Inf Co. G, 92 IL Inf., and last Co. D 46th IL Inf. He was acting as a scout and was shot by Rebels 14 May 1864 this was reported by Capt Dornblaster in his report of the Yazoo Expedition. He makes a comment of how valuable Sgt Eells service had been to the success of the Expedition. He was the only casualty. It should be noted that his uncle George Waterman Eells 1st Sgt of 42nd IL was wounded on the same day 14 May 1864. He died of wounds in the Chattanooga Hospital on 22 May 1864.
