Capt. David Crews of Madison Co., Ky. joined Col. William Byrd in 1761 in Bedford Co., Va. and he
was disowned by the Quakers for joining a military force. Col. Byrd moved his troops to present
Kingsport, Tenn.in 1761 where they built Fort Robinson (now Fort Patrick Henry).
Capt David Crews married (1)in 1760 Bedford Co., Va., his step sister, Annie McGahea, daughter of
Samuel McGahea who died in Henrico Co., Va. David Crews Sr. married 2nd, Mary Ladd, the widow
of Samuel McGahea. Capt. David Crews was a son of David Crews Sr. his first wife, Mary Stanley.
David Sr. was a son of John Crews Sr. of Charles City Co., Va., who moved to New Kent County in
1726 and died there in 1745. The records are good on this family. Actually better than on my family line.
See Hinshaw, Ency of American Quakers, Vol VI (Va.)

The Boonesborough Records
History of Madison Co., Ky.
The 168 pages of depositions in the Lawsuit of Elijah Crews vs his brothers and sisters
filed in Madison Co., Ky.
The Isle of Wight Co., Va. Records before 1712.
The early Va. Crews immigrants and the ships they arrived on and the dates.
The Va. and Ky. land deeds, patents, and Wills in New Kent Co. and Bedford Co.,Va.
The same for Kentucky before and after it became a State.
They will all be of interest to you and worth your time in getting to know your family.
I don't know what happened to Jeremiah Crews and wife, Elizabeth Harlan, after they left
Madison Co., Ky.before Elijah's lawsuit, and the names of their children except one son, John, who was
in Vigo Co., Indiana. I have tried to find their family and where they died.
Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, has records that say that John Crews of Charles City and New
Kent Co.,Va. is probably from the family in Northamptonshire, England, but may be from John
Crews,Esq., and wife, Ann Mainwaring of Cheshire, England.
