Notes for WILLIAM BARTON WADDLE:
William Barton Waddle came to Chillicothe, Iowa from Bartholomew County, Indiana in 1856. There he met and courted his wife to be, Rebecca Jane Poston, and they were married on April 18, 1857.
William Barton believed in the best education possible for his children.
In addition to farming, he was a native lumber contractor. He did business with Jerry Seamore of Ottumwa when Seamore opearated the plant to manufacture copper items.
According to Bob Waddle, his grandfather, William Barton was bothered with Dropsy during the last several years of his life, and the only thing available then to control the swelling of his legs was Epson Salts. In 1912 he came into town and stayed with daughter Mary on Haynes Street in Ottumwa when her busband, Walter Warren Hubler died (his wife Rebecca had died in 1908). Hegot a job at Morrell's opening and shutting the door 10 hours a day for $1.00 per day. He worked there for two years.
His dropsy got worse and he had to quit Morrells and then he moved in with dauther Dorcas and her family. Being off his feet so much, his dropsy got better for a while but then worse again. He lived for two more years, and then died in 1917.
