, Elisabeth and their 2 kids Elizabeth and Albert came to America from Germany in 1881.The trip took 18 days and landed in Baltimore. After that they lived in St. Louis for many year before moving to Wheatland, IA.
! OBITUARY; Heinrich Wagner.
Heinrich Wagner, resident of Wheatland for many years, passed away at his home here Monda y morning, August 31st, 1931, at 4:05 o'clock at the age of 78 years and 21 days, as the result of a stroke suffered some time last Tuesday night.
Heinrich Wagner was born August 10, 1853, in Wunderthausen, Prussia, Germany, and at th e age of sixteen began his apprenticeship as a stone mason, serving four years. Then he started out for himself in the work that he followed the balance of his life.
On December 18th, 1875, he was married to Miss Elizabeth Beitzel, also of Wunderthausen , where they continued to make their home for nearly six years. Here three children were born, namely Henry, who died while a few days old; Elizabeth and Albert. With these two children Mr. and Mrs. Wagner decided to come to America and find them a home where there were better opportunities. They first located in St. Louis, MO. in October, 1881, where they lived until in the fall of 1886, when they moved to Wheatland.
Coming here they settled on the 20 acre farm just west of town, belonging then to Dr. T.D . Gamble and now owned by Riedesel Bros. They lived one year, then moved to the farm recently owned by Herman Puetsch, were they spent the summer of 1887, removing again to the former farm, and finally coming to Wheatland in the fall of 1888, which was always afterward their home. Mr. Wagner followed the trade of stone and brick mason until a few years ago. His wife died in November 1925, since which he has made his home alone most of the time, being cared for by his children, grandchildren and neighbors, all of whom held him in the highest of respect and esteem.
He was a member of St. Paul's Reformed church of this place for fifty years, and his enti re life was spent in the performance of his duties to his family and community, at peace with his friends and neighbors.
Surviving him are four sons, Albert of this place, William and Otto of Hartley, Iowa; an d Louis of Verona, North Dakota; three daughters, Mrs. P. A. Schneider, Mrs. Hugo Ballhorn and Mrs. Walter Morgan, all of Wheatland; also 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death, leaving him the last of his family.
Funeral services will be held at the home this afternoon at 1:30, and at St. Paul's Refor med church at 2.
