Missing in Battle of Pittsburg Landing, April 6 1862; Confined Corinth, Miss., 4-16-1862. Also Confined, Tusaloose, Ala, 4-15 1862 (?) Sent to Montgomery, Ala. 5-15-1862. Born 2-26-1841 in Meigs Co., or Callia Co., Ohio, (depositions disagree). Light complexion, light hair, grey eyes. Received gunshot wound of right leg below the knee after escaping from rebel Prison at Tuscaloose, Alabama. Was floating down river on raft made of rails when just about daylight, he was discovered and fired upon by the enemy. No treatment for this wound, received near Tom Bigbe (rest is unreadable) River in May, 1862. Another gunshot wound sent him to the Post hospital at Kansas City. This was a perforating gunshot wound of right side thorax and fx of scapula. Had been a miner and farmer. His deposition stated, "My mother's children has been kept by my brother in law, C.D. Lutz and John Romine and Sally Kickoff for past 7 years, all of this place, (Jewell City) on acct. of my health. Since he could not earn a living by manual labor, his family physician advised him to open up a drug store, which he did.
