Individual:
Sibyl Luddington was from Fredricksburg, Dutchess Co., New York, which later became Patterson and Carmel, New York.
On the night of 26 April 1777, Sibyl helped warn the militiamen of the British Invasion of Danbury, Connecticut. She rode from Carmel, to Mahopac, to Kent Cliffs, to Farnmer's Mills and back home, some 40 miles ona dark rainy night, as she rode on horseback. There is a monument in her honor in Carmel, New York.
After the war she moved with her husband to Catskill, N.Y. He died there of yellow fever. She then became a Tavern Keeper. Later, she moved with her son to Unadilla and Bainbridge, NY. After she died she was buried back in Patterson, N.Y.
Her name appears as Sebal in her husband's Revolutionary War Pension file.
