Notes
Individual:
Alfred Janes was less permanent in residence and business, than some others of the family. He resided in Ashford, Conn., Sturbridge, Mass., Hartford, Conn., Auburn, and Seneca Falls, N.Y.

He was in the boot and shoe business, kept the City Hotel at Hartford, and after that went into the manufacturing of looking glasses, with his brother. On removing to New York, he engaged in the house painting business with his sons.

He possessed considerable inventive genius and experimented more than was profitable for the pocket book. He was fond of reading, had quite a taste for drawing. His conversational powers were fine; entering into conversation with more or less historical knowledge, and a large fund of anecdotes.
