SON, THOMAS2 STANTON, JR. 2. Thomas2 Stanton, Jr., b. 1638, in Hartford, Conn. Hem. SARAH DENISON, oldest dau. of Capt. George Denison of Stonington, Conn. She was b. March 20, 1641, and d. Dec. 19, 1701. Thomas2 died in Stonington, April 11, 1718. He withhis bro. John2 received from their father his lands in Preston,Conn. Dr. Savage, in his Genealogical Dictionary, has this note: "Thomas Stanton, Jr., had shown, before the removal of his father from Hartford, such an aptness for the language of the Indians, as to be desired, in 1654, by the Commissioners of the United Colony of New England to be employed in the publie service with his younger bro. John, by training at Harvard College for interpreter, and seven years the Colony made grant ofland and money to the father for the benefit of him and them." Thos.2 Stanton, Jr., Nov. 11, 1698, bought of Owaneeo, chief sachem of Mohegan, a tract of 650 acres, "lying in the North Parish in New London, adjoining to a pond called Obplmtksok (now Gardiner's Lake) a mile or more long." This he sold toLieut. James Harris and in 1721 Harris sold it to Joseph Otis ofNew London.
