BIOGRAPHY: BIOGRAPHY: - Jacques Bourgeois came to Acadia as a military surgeon in1642, during the governorship of Charles d'Aulnay. WhenPort-Royalsurrendered on 16 August 1654, Jacques was lieutenant of thesmallAcadian garrison. He founded the settlement at Beaubassin in 1672bysettling his sons there, as well as his sons-in-law, Pierre CyrandGermain Girouard. When Beaubassin was granted to La Valliere asaseigniory in 1676, his patent letters stated he was not to interferewiththe settlers already established there. At Beaubassin JacquesBourgeoisbuilt a flour and a sawmill, and was involved in ship building.
