Individual:
Thomas - was born around 1636 in La Rochelle, France. He was the son ofmaster carpenter Robert Cormier and of Marie Piraude. He came toAcadiaas a child with his father to work on Nicolas Deny's fort at SaintPeterson Cape Breton.
The enlistment contract, signed at La Rochelle on January 8, 1644 wasfound in the archives of notary Teuleron. Robert Cormier agreed tocometo Acadia with his family and to work there for three years. Itappearsthat Robert returned to France and that his only son, Thomas,stayed inAcadia. The census taken in 1671 in Port-Royal indicates thatThomasCormier was - like his father - a carpenter by trade, that he was35years old and married to 17-year-old Madeleine Girouard. He had asmallfarm with seven horned animals and seven sheep. A few years later,Thomasmoved, with his family to Beaubassin, where he was one of thepioneers ofthe new Acadian colony. All Cormiers have their roots inBeaubassin.Thomas left a family of 10 children, including four sons:Franois,Alexis, Germain and Pierre.

Thomas Cormier is found in Port-Royal where he married MadeleineGirouard, daughter of Franois dit Lavaranne Girouard and JeanneAucoinwho married Abt. 1647. Thomas and Marie-Madeleine married Abt. 1668andhad ten children. Thomas and his family become one of the firstsettlersof Beaubassin. He was born abt 1636 and died before the census of1693.
