Robert, originating in La Rochelle, his wife Marie Praud and Thomas,their only son, depart on the ship, la Petit Saint-Pierre to makethevoyage across the Atlantic.
Thomas Cormier married Marie-Madeleine Girouard, daughter of FrançoisGirouard and Jeanne Aucoin. He is then thirty-two years old. Afterliving for a time in Port-Royal, they then set out, with othercolonists,to found the colony of Beaubassin.
Arrived at Cape Breton around 1644 as an employee of Nicolas Denye. Robert was a Master Carpenter. Died on 12 FEB 1711 or 1712. He mayhavemarried in 1634

Robert was the first Cormier to come to Canada--- the root of allCormiers on the American Continent. Probably was brought over by theSieur LeBORGNE de BELLISLE on the vessel of Sieur Andre TUFFET --KING'SCOUNSELLOR1644 to go to Fort Saint Breton Island. He was a carpenter whowas listedon the first Arcadian census in 1671 at age 35 and establishedin PortRoyal in 1671, then Beaubassin in 1686where four sons eventuallylocatedin 1752. The family were refugees in the Isthmusof Acadia at theNampanRiver at Wesak at Beausejour. He helped develop Beaubassin.
