Individual:
Many a writer has tried to explain the origins of this family.Itwasgenerally believed that th
e Melanson were of Scottish origin, butthisassumption was based on a historic mistake. There is nodocumentthatdemonstrates that the Melansons who came to Acadia wereofScottishdecent, in fact to the contrary there is proof that they wereofEnglishdescent. The two Melanson brothers, PIERRE, dit Laverdure, a stonemason,bornin1632, the spouse of Marie Marguerite Muis d'Entremont, thedaughterofthe Lord of Pomcoup, Philippe Mius d 'Entremont, and CHARLES,bornin1643, the husband of Marie Dugas, daughter of Armourer AbrahamDugasandMarguerite Doucet of Port Royal, arrived in Port Royalaccompaniedtheirparents aboard the ship the Satisfaction, with Sir ThomasTemple, the newEnglish Governor of Acadia, which arrived in 1657. Duringalmostacentury, just until the deportation of the Acadians in1755,thesettlement was the place of residence of Charles Melanson andhiswifeMarie Dugas, and their descendents and associates.
