Text: The name "Brevard" is of Hugeunot origin. They went form Frances to northern Ireland, and came to America prior to 1711, and settled in Maryland. In 1726 John Brevard from the "Upper Elk" Congregatio
n in Maryland attended a meeting in New Castle Presbytery. Sometime after three sons of John (John, Robert and Zebulon) left Maryland, probably
on the death of father and set out for North Carolina. There in 1747/48 John and Robert entered upon land on the headwater of Rocky River located between the Davidson and
Templeton families. John's wife was Jane McWhorter. Two Brevard girls - Polly and
Sally married Davidson Brothers, Johna dn George. John and his wife were killed by Indians.
