It shows no white males above 16, no blacks of anyage and only one horse. This may not be Terisha's son.In Amherst County Virginia In The Revolution 1773-1782 IncludingExtracts from the "Lost Order" Book by Leonora HigginbothamSweeny, on page 47 in a chapter entitled "Revolutionary Soldiersfrom Amherst County Comprising then the Territory of the PresentCounty of Nelson," William Turner is shown as a revolutionarysoldier.On page 173 [ibid.]: "Turner, William, -- Amherst Col., Va.,August 21, 1832: b. Albemarle Co., 1760; enlisted under Capt.Philip Thurmond, 3 mos. at the Barracks in Albemarle; "Whilethere Capt. James Garland was killed by a sentinel on duty";Orderly Sergt. under Capt. Young Landrum, Gen. Lawson's Brig.,in battle of Guilford. Remembers seeing Gen. Edward Stevensremoved from the battle ground badly wounded. Again drafted asSergt. under Capt. Benjamin Higginbotham & on the line of marchto York Town was appointed Ensign in said company, whichcommission in the great lapse of time he has lost.
