John Turner is shown as a revolutionary soldier.[Source: In Amherst County Virginia In The Revolution 1773-1782Including Extracts from the "Lost Order Book" by LeonoraHigginbotham Sweeny on page 47 in a chapter entitled"Revolutionary Soldiers from Amherst County Comprising then theTerritory of the Present County of Nelson]The household of a John Turner is shown in The 1787 Census ofVirginia in Bedford County Personal Property Tax 1787 - List "B"on page 209. This list shows him having 3 horses, mares, colts,and/or mules and 7 cattle. No other persons are listed.Old Terisha bequeathed him 519 acres on Fry's Branch in Amherst(already in his possession) along with three Negroes.[Source: Amherst Will Book 4:34]John had eight in his family in 1783. He furnished 300 lbs. ofbeef for the army on July 24, 1781[Source: Amherst Public Service Claims, p. 13].He is said to have moved to Wilson County, Tennessee after hisfather's death. [Source: Reliques of the Rives]. He perhaps diedprior to 1820 when a Mildred Turner was listed as head of ahousehold in the Sumner County, Tennessee census.A John Turner and a Benjamin Turner show up in Scott County,Kentucky on the 1800 Tax List.
