Individual:
THE MINSONS OF ELIZABETH CITY COUNTY by Myles Johnson Part 1page 55-56 SIDWELL MINSON (John) seems to have been youngerthan her brother, William. While there is no specific documentshowing that her parents were John and Sydwell Minson, her nameand associations make this more that a reasonable assumption. She married a fairly prosperous man, Bertrand Proby, the son ofPeter & Jane (Servant) Proby. Jane Servant's father Bertram (orBartram, Bertrand) Servant (whom John Minson had sued in1697)was born in France about 1632 and come to Virginia about1650. He had four daughters and one son, and the two familieshad many interactions recorded in Elizabeth City county records.Sidwell Minson and Bertrand Proby had seven children before hisdeath in 1737. His will, written on 4 November 1736, shows thatSidwell survived him and leaves her "plantation"(i.e. house andland) and possessions during her life, with the oldest son,Servant John Proby, to receive them after her. Their childrenare each named, as successive heirs to this property. His wifeand oldest son, Servant John, are named co-executors. SidwellMinson, dates unknown but married about 1702. She marriedBernard Proby, son of Peter Proby, and had 7 children.
