Benjamin recieved at his fathers death half of the farm and other goods. From his brother John he purchased his share in the old homestead on Bass river, and in 1658 sucured his brother Freeborns share of his fathers estate. He lived in the home from when he was nine until his death. all his children were born in it.
His independance of the puritanical notions of the times appears in several instances. For giving a nights lodging to a stranger on foot, he was arrested and fined, and he left the baptism of his children to their own desires.
