Carol Tallman Jones Heritage Hideout

Welcome to my genealogy database

A native of Idaho born November 1946, I am a daughter of Benjiman Eldon Tallman & Gertrude LaVone Hinton. Eldon & Tiny had one daughter before me, Constance Vee Tallman. Connie was born January 1945 in Oregon. Much information in this file stems from her years of research.

Although I dabbled a bit over the years, in the fall of 2001 Connie got me seriously involved in researching our roots. With the Internet data available also came numerous cousins, who kindly shared more family data (and photos). The combined result is what you see here.

Immigrations to USA from Canada, Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, Germany, Barbados, et al.

Primary U.S. states (in alphabetical order) include Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Notables include Abraham Lincoln (16th U.S. President), Daniel Boone (frontiersman), Rev. Increase Mather and Rev. Cotton Mather (Salem Witch Trials fame), James Oliver (Oliver Chilled Plow Works fame), and Cincinnatus Hiner Miller, aka Joaquin Miller, "Poet of the Sierras".

Major brick walls (among several) are:
  • The heritage of Jeremiah MORRIS, born bet. 1810-1820, died January 1844 (probably in Iowa). Possibly called "Johnny" or John Morris, Jeremiah Morris m. 26 Sep 1837 in Des Moines Co., Iowa, Nancy English (aka Mary Agnes Nancy English, daughter. of Capt. Levin Nelson English and Mary Tucker) who m2. 11 Jun 1845 on Platte River (Oregon Trail), Indian Territory (one doc says Kansas Territory.), Coleman Burnett. (In 1845, the Burnett family settled in Marion Co., Oregon, and had 7 more children.) Jeremiah Morris & Nancy/Mary English had 2 children born in Iowa: Hiram Morris b. about. 1838, and Anna Morris b. about. 1842. Census records show this Morris family in Des Moines Co., IA, in 1838 & 1840.
Jeremiah Morris died between 23-34 years of age. What caused his death? Was he killed by Indians?
Jeremiah's daughter Anna/Annie/Ann Morris named one of her sons Achilles, a unique name not found in the family (Eads/Eades) of her husband. Is Jeremiah Morris descended from the William Morris (1722-1792) Elizabeth Stipps (1729-1795) family of Virginia/West Virginia who settled on the Upper Kanawha, several of whom were named Achilles Morris? (Here are found several Morris-Jarrett marriages.)
  • The heritage of John Thomas HINTON (aka Thomas Hinton) b. 1824-1825 in England, d. 14 May 1891 in Block House Settlement, Wilber Twp., Iosco, Michigan, m. 05 Mar 1851 in Wesleyan Methodist Congregations, Russelltown, Quebec, Canada, Celina O'Neill, b. 27 Apr 1829 in Covey Hill, Hemmingford, Huntingdon, Quebec, Canada, died 27 Mar 1874 in Mooers, Clinton, New York. Celina (Salina, Selina) is the oldest child and only daughter of William O'Neill and (1st wife) Abigail Sherman. -- Nine (9) Hinton sons were born of this union, some not yet found. Sixth son Tom Hinton possibly changed his surname to Axis (spelling ?) due to trouble with the law. Ninth son "Frank" Hinton (b. 11 Nov 1872), adopted after his mother's death, became Massachusetts politician, Frank W. Barr.

More details (and related Hinton family photos) posted on Hinton Hideout: http://www.digis.net/~clj3/9sons.htm
