Dabinott appears to be a French (post conquest) name introduced into England by the Norman's. It is most likely constructed from the 'pet' or 'nick' name of "Dabb"- together with a double diminutive of "it & ett." The Dabinott family was of Huguenot extraction, who settled in a English area called Coweleyes, in Marshwood Vale, located a few miles West of Netherbury, from where the Newbury family came from.
