Obituary: Akron Beacon Journal-March 2004
Charles E. Taylor
Charles Eugene Taylor was born April 18, 1924, in Washington, PA. He went home to be with the Lord on March 20, 2004, just shy of his 80th birthday.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jean Taylor, also of Pennsylvania. Mr. Taylor worked and retired from the Firestone Synthetic plant in Akron with over 30 years of service. He was an active member of the Akron Baptist Temple for over 35 years and an active participant in their Senior Adult Program. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army in the South Pacific during World War II, in the anti-aircraft division.
Charles is survived by brother, James T. Taylor of Shelby, N.C.; sister, Margaret Beal of Washington, PA.; and lifelong friend, Rev. Larry Hess and wife, Hazel of Charlotte, N.C. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews of Pennsylvania, New York, and California.
Charles came to Akron in 1942, and made his home with the Howard Hess family, and eventually bought the house next door. He has been "Brother Charles" for over 62 years to the Hess family, and "Uncle Charles" for over 40 years to Linda (Don) Plum, Lori (Jeff) Smejkal, and Luci (Joey) Stevenson. His primary caregiver during the last 18 years has been Linda Plum of Munroe Falls.
Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd., where services will be held on Tuesday, March 23 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Howard Powell and Rev. Larry Hess officiating. Burial and military service by V.F.W. Firstone Post 3383 to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Akron Baptist Temple.
