!EUGENE HENSHAW OLD FAMILY BIBLE, KING & QUEEN CO MARRIAGE REGISTER, 1850CENSUS,
!Eugene Henshaw enlisted in the Confederate Artillery (2 Reg't. Virginia
Artillery). He was a Private in this regiment which became the 22nd Batt'n of
Virginia Infintry. He was mustered at Gloucester Point, Virginia on March,
1862 by Capt. Johnson. He deserted March 22, 1863 according to the "company muster roll". B ut, was actually a prisoner of war in Charles County, Maryland on September 7, 1864 and was released. No date on this release is available.
Information for court maritial: Pvt. Company G. 2nd Virgnia Battalion-Court Martial - Gene ral's Orders No. 41 - Hq. Dept. Northern VA. Lee - March 17,1863.
Note,Need to check on wills in Green Co. Va. Book 2 pages 200,284,419.Also
the pension records where ever they are to be found.( This is another part of the Henshaw fam ily.) and it is not known where it fits in.
There are some records of Upper King&Queen Co. Va. at the University of
Richmond, See a man by the name of Johnson. Don't remember who gave this information to me ba ck in the fifty's or sixty's
In the census of 1870 there is a Masia L. Henshaw age 18 white female and a
William T. or L. Henshaw age 12 white male, listed under Eugene Henshaw's name.
This Eugene Henshaw & Susan Davis Chenault were man & wife at this time,
their ages were 38 for him and 31 for her.
There is also listed a Eliza age 1 month, She was of the black race,We don't know
what this means as of now, We do know that Eugene had slaves.
Eugene was born in Caroline Co. Va. Died 28 Nov 1915, District of Manchester
Chesterfield Co. Buried at the Vaughan family cemetery in Bermuda District (At
the Bermuda Golf Course) Chesterfield Co. Va. 30 Nov 1915. Undertaker was T.A. Reddin of Rich mond ,Va. Eugene was buried outside of the graveyard border because they said he was too ornery to be biried inside.
Also in the census of 1870 there is another Susan Henshaw age 59 white female and a male chil d named Chaney age 20 and he was mulatto. More information is needed to explain what this means.
!Eugene Henshaw was ordained a Priest by Anders Mortensen 03 Aug 1903. He was living at Swan sboro, Chesterfield County, Virginia; and was ordained an Elder 06 March 1905 by Elder Ben Rich.
Henshaw, Eugene, Pvt. Co. G, 2nd Va. Artillery, during the Civil War. The
regiment was broken up in May, 1862; Cos. A,B,D,E,G, and H being reorganized
as a battalion, and known in the field as the "2nd Battalion, NVa. Inf.or
Art'y." It was finally officially reorganized as the "22nd Battn. Va.
Inf." Companies I and K were disbanded and the enlisted men were assigned
principally to Companies C and F. They became independent artillery
companies, then known as "Capt. Drewry's Co., Va Art'y" and "Capt. Allen's
Co., Va Art'y," respectively. See also 9th Va. Militia, 22 Battalion Va. Inf.

And the Court do, therefore,scentence the said private Eugene Henshaw
to confinement in his regimental guard house two months, tostand two
hours each day on a barrel during this time in front of the guard-house
with a card upon his back with the words absent without leave, writen
thereon and to forfeit all pay and allowances from the 23d day of May
1862 to the 13th day of February 1863.
