John was appointed sheriff of Caroline County, VA in 1742. He probably lived in Charles City County, Virginia He patented 177 acres in the area of Warren County, North Carolina. It is probable that he remarried following the early death of his wife but there is no record of this. Since John Macon's father died early in 1702, his step-father, Nathaniel West, became his guardian.
