Text: My data includes William Rabon Sr and his sons John,
William, Abraham and George from Horry county, SC. The
descendants of William, Jr., Abraham, and George have been
researched by others. I used information furnished by Carl
E. Bailey, which I got off of the internet. The census
information is my research.
To establish Williams age I used the 1800, 1810, and 1830
census. I tend not to believe the 1840 census where he
gives his age as 80 to 90. In order for him to be over 45
in 1810 he had to be 35 to 45 in 1800. In 1840 he could
only be 75 to 80, so I comprimised at 80 since he thought he
was older. This would put him born about 1760.
Census information about this family:

Son 1 to 9 Abe age 7
Dau's 10 to 15 (2)
There was an extra age class in the 1820 census for males
only. I mention this because Abe is in that class. Males
could be 0 to 9, 10 to 15, 16 to 18, 16 to 25, 26 to 45 and
45+. If a male was in the 16 to 18 class the census taker
always entered a 1 in that class and a 1 in the 16 to 25
class for that same person. If a person were above 18 they
would be put in the 16 to 25 class just like in the other
census. Therefore, that is why some of these families
seemed to have too many children in that particular census.

It is impossible to determine the children by the census
ages. In 1840 there should have been 5 sons according to

In the 1840 census Wm had two young males and three young
females in the home, but in 1850 we find only Wm Jr. and
Elizabeth.
William Sr. of Horry co. has died before the 1850 census.
He would have been probably into his 80's. Further census
data and information from wills or deeds may be found in the
bio of individual persons.
1850 Census
Sometime in the 1840's William Rabon (1) died. He could
have been in his
mid-90s.
William Rabon (2), b. 1788 is listed as being 62 years old.
[This ties in
nicely with his birthdate]
William Rabon (3), b. 1827, 23 years old. [Not a player as
far as we're
concerned, too young]
W.H. (Possibly William Rabon {4}) appears 28 years old, b.
about 1822.[Too
young to be a player except he may have been known as
"Little Willie" who
was murdered by Abe, Jr. and William Rabon (2)'s will
indicates that hewas
dead by the mid 1850s]
1860 Census
[:TAB:]William Rabon (2), died in 1856. By then, W.
(possibly Willie) H. Rabon was already dead. The book
indicates that this
occurred abt 1849, maybe even 1850 while the census was
being taken.That's
why he shows up on the census as head of household and then
is dead when
William Rabon (2), died.
I wasn't quite sure how to separate the Williams since the
Censuses usedso many Srs and Jrs. Ignoring them and using
birthdates, helps make moresense and helps to separate them
quite easily.
