Name of deceased soldier who enlisted under the name of Milton O. Thornton, at Lebanon, Mo. On the 26th day of Oct. A. D. 1863. In Capt. Casarts, Co. 8th, Reg. M.S.M. who was honorably discharged July 17, 1865 and discharged 1866 near Crocker, Pulaski County, Missouri. (Buried on Old McNab farm)
That she was married under the name of Elizabeth E. Floyd, to said Milton O. Thornton, on the 8 day of Jan. 1860 by John Shelton, at Camden County, Missouri. There being no legal barried to such marriage: That she had NOT been previously married; that he had been previously married.

Soldier first wife died in 1858 in Camden County, Missouri.

That she has remarried on Dec. 24, 1868 near Brumley, Missouri to H. E. Luttrell, who died on March 24, 1897 near Brumley, Missouri.
That she has applied for widow pension as of Sept. 8, 1916. Said application being filed Feb. 10, 1917 in account of service and death of above named soldier, that her post office address is Brumley, Miller County, Missouri.

Milton O. Thornton, was born in Burk County, North Carolina, September 16, 1829. Died May 4, 1866. He enlisted at Lebanon, Missouri Oct. 26, 1863.
Milton O. Thornton first wife was born Feb. 15, 1830, her name is Julie Ann Littrell. Their son name, William S. Thornton, born Jan 27, 1851. Died Schuyler County, Illinois.

That she is unable to furnish any record of her birth other than the record made by her husband in about 1860 and that sheet was taken from the Bible in which it was written because it contained her family record and the Bible retained by James Luttrell, and that it was burned in his house some years afterward. That she understands that the copy has been forwarded to Washington in her claim. That she was born in Hardeman County, Tenn. Jan 20th, 1841 as she remembers it and then when small her family moved to Schyler County, Illinois. That they moved to Mo. in about 1855 and lived here ever since. In 1850, she lived in Schyler, County, Illinois with her parents and in 1860 she lived with M.O. Thornton her husband in Pulaski County, Mo. near what is now known as Hawkeye, Mo. That her parents were Thomas Floyd, and Nancy Floyd, that she was the oldest of the family and Sally who married Jerry Goforth, was next about 1858 or 1859 and soon moved away out about Joplin, Mo. The next was Julie who lived at home with the family in Miller County, Missouri and died some time after the war. The next one sister Mary who married William Luttrell, after the war, lived at home and in 1860 moved to Hickory County, Missouri. The next one was Lucinda who also lived at home in 1860 and married James Mashburn, after the war they moved to Arkansas. The next was Caroline she also lived at home during the war and in 1860. And later married Silas Luttrell, and lived in this community now and. The next one was Martha J. who died in infancy in Illinois. The next was James Floyd, who lived at home in Miller County in 1860 and lives here now and the next was Nancy C. who died in infancy about 1860. The next was Amanda who was born after 1860. And last was a boy unnamed died in infancy. We never lived in any town or city but always in the country.

That she was married to said Thornton by a Justice of the Peace in Camden County, Missouri January 18th, 1860. And that the records of said Camden County have been burned so that she cannot obtain a copy and that the Justice who married them moved away during the civil war and she does not think of any one living now who was present at the time that. That she has the original record made by Thornton of her marriage. And the births of their children. That there is no record of the death of either of her husbands. So far as she is advised for the reason that there was no official or church records made of deaths at that time in this country.
Affidavit of (J.M. WARNELL, AGE 76 YEARS BORN 1841 BRUMLEY, MO)
Prior to the civil war his fathers family and he with them lived in Camden County, Mo. and in sight of the residence of Milton O. Thornton, in about 1858. That said Thornton, first wife died about 1858. That he and his sister sat up with the corps (corpse?) the night she lay corps. And that she was buried at the Glover Graveyard about one mile from our homes. That he was acquainted with said Thornton, until the time of his death or until he heard of his getting killed sometime after the close of the civil war.
