FARMINGTON BUSINESS MAN DIES IN INDIANA, Farmington, Ill., Oct.19 -- (Special) Word was received here this morning that L. B.Baylor, local prominent resident, died at South Bend, Ind.,after suffering a stroke Saturday morning. Mr. Baylor left herelast week for a business trip to Plainsfield, Wis., and SouthBend.
Born in Henry county July 11, 1861, a son of John and Kate(Nelson) Baylor, he was married to Clara Keeling, who precededhim in death. Clifford Baylor, of thie city, is a son.Brothers and sisters are E. C. and Royal Baylor, both ofCanton; R. U. Baylor, Farmington; Mrs. Edith Johnson, Hamlet,Ind.; Mrs. Eva Frank, Idaho; and Mrs. Ethel Tanner and MissMaude Baylor, both of Canton. Mr. Baylor had spent most of hislife here. He was prominent in politcal circles, serving asRepublican precinct committeeman for many years. He alsoserved on the Fulton county board of supervisors. The body willbe returned here by T. H. Anderson, local funeral director.Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
L. B. BAYLOR DIES SUDDENLY AT SOUTH BEND, INDIANA
A sense of personal loss was felt by everyone in Farmington whenword was received here about noon Monday that L. B. Baylor hadpassed away at 10:30 o'clock that morning in a South Bend,Indiana, hospital. In company with Mr. W. A. Sampson he had leftFarmington on Tuesday evening of last week on an inspection tripto the Wisconsin farm lands involved in the Steenburg bank.Arriving in Chicago on thursday after two days in Wisconsin, Mr.Sampson returned to Farmington while Mr. Baylor went to SouthBend, Indiana, where he was met Friday morning by WalterSteenburg. All day Friday Mr. Baylor and Walter drove aroundthe farms which Mr. Baylor was managing for Farmingtoninterests. Approaching South Bend that evening Mr. Baylor wassuddenly stricken, his left side being almost entirely affected.A physician was summoned and Mr. Baylor was taken to thehospital. His son, Clifford, was notified and he and his wifeleft early Saturday morning for his father's bedside. Theweight of the shock gradually began to tell until the end camepeacefully at about 10:30 Monday morning. T. H. Anderson wascalled from Farmington and E. B. Moul drove to South BendMonday afternoon returning with the remains of Mr. Baylor atabout four o'clock Tuesday morning. Thus had closed the Book ofLife for one who has for many years given of his time andability to the civic and cultural advancement of his homecommunity. Elevated many times by his fellow citizens topositions of responsibility in the direction of the affairs ofthe town, he had never shirked a duty, violated a trust norbetrayed a confidence.
OBITUARY
Leonard B. Baylor was born in Henry County, Illinois, July 11,1864, a son of John and Kate (Nelson) Baylor. He was united inmarriage to Clara Keeling who preceeded him in death. To thisunion was born one son, Clifford R. Baylor, who survives.Brothers and sisters are E. C. and Royal Baylor, both ofCanton; R. U. Baylor, Farmington; Mrs. Edith Johnson, Hamlet,Ind.; Mrs. Eva Frank, Idaho; and Mrs. Ethel Tanner and MissMaude Baylor, both of Canton. There are several nieces andnephews and one granddaughter, little Barbara Baylor. Funeralservices were held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from theFarmington Baptist Church, Rev. Alexander Lewis officiating.The last ritual for their Brother was read by officers of theFarmington Lodge Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Mrs. RoyRagsale sang a solo, accompanied by Miss Velma Walters at thepiano. The remains were borne to their final resting place inOak Ridge cemetery by Henry Stokow, Fred Clayton, Elmer Jackson,Arthur Dalton, Don Parks and Dr. A. C. Wood.
