He served in Co. B, 22d Alabama Infantry, CSA beginning Sept. 1861. Hewascaptured at Columb ia, S. C., on February 17, 1865, and was releasedatHart's Island, New York Harbor, June 15 , 1865, on taking the oathofallegiance to the United States. His application for pension wasnumber 18253 filed on December 20, 1909, and approved February 28, 1910,(he died on Feb. 1). Family stories say that he walked all the way fromHart's Island to PolkCounty, Tx.. He was also wounded during the war andcarried a small cannonball in his side from the wound. The oath ofallegiance describes him as 5 ft. 9 in. with dark hair, dark complexion,and blue eyes. Alabama Volunteers CSA Co B 17
