Mr. Burrows,
I came across your Rootsweb page on the Stulls, specifically Joseph C. Stull of
Richmond, Macomb, Michigan, and wanted to write to thank you for the information. Ihave also seen your "Stull Family Research" page with its helpful informationsources.
Some of my genealogy research is also on the Stulls, through De Forest Stull,
Joseph C.'s son, and my wife's great grandfather.
Since I had been looking at the 1880 and 1900 census from Michigan, I thought I
could offer you one item that I believe differs from what you have on your rootswebpage. From those two censuses, it looks like Joseph C. Stull was listed as a"Cooper" not a "Cooker," as you have in your page. I am not sure if this will be ofassistance, but I thought I would share it with you. The down stroke of the "p" inthe 1880 census is hard to see, but in the 1900 census it is clearer.
If you are interested, I would be happy to correspond and share our research. As of
now, I do not have any research on the web. (Though I am thankful you did!)
Thank you again.
Best,
James Capobianco

Jim,
Thanks for the prompt reply! That's amazing that you're right nearby in Maynard. I
live in Allston, MA.
I am actually neither a student nor a professor at Emerson. I'm a reference
librarian in the Emerson College Library. I guess that makes me both; I teach anumber of library instruction sessions, but also am constantly learning things fromstudents, books and online databases.
My genealogy research on the Stulls, I have to admit, is in its early stages, so I
don't have that much to offer yet. I've only looked at censuses, and no vitalrecords or other records. I was somewhat confused by what I found and theinformation you had for Joseph's (second?) wife.
I have reproductions of the 1900 and 1910 census for Richmond in TIF format. Shall
I email these to you?
It seems that in the 1900 census of Richmond, Macomb, Michigan, Joseph C. Stull
(born Dec 1847, 52 years old) is married to an Emily Stull and had been for 19years. They have one son, De Forest, who is 15. Emily is 14 years younger thanJoseph, and is listed as being 38 years old.
Also, the 1910 census for Richmond shows an Emma R. Stull, a widower who had had
one child, not listed with her. She is 48.[I also have a 1910 census of De Forest, newly married to Mary Walsh, living and
teaching in Danville, Illinois]
So, this doesn't seem to be the Adelaide A Wines that you mention, though she does
seem to be De Forest's mother. Perhaps the records that mention Adelaide Wines arenot accurate, or perhaps she died soon after Joseph and her were married?
Interesting questions. I will continue to compile what I have, and would definitely
be willing to export a GEDCOM and send it to you. My program can also import them.
Hope to talk to you again soon,
James

The Bates Cemetery, as it was referred to when I inquired, is located in Richmond Twp.
about 2-3 miles NW of Richmond, Michigan on Armada Ridge Road. The Cemetery is situated ona piece of property between two residences and begins right at the road. This small pieceof history, formerly known as the "Highbanks District Burying Ground", was deeded to thepeople of Richmond by John Bates and his son Marvin F. Bates on October 9, 1852 for thesum of $25.00. There was a committe created, possibly to oversee the grounds, thatconsisted of the following individuals: William L. Bates (John's son), Eli G. Perkins andWhitman A. Corbin. Names included below with an ( * ) were included in the originalcemetery plat.----------

First Burying Site by by Ronald E. Eason.
St. Clair County, Columbus Twp.
This cemetery has a wooden sign erected in the middle of it that states: "First Burying
Site", "Rededicated 7-18-1976". It's located on Arlington Road, between Gratiot Ave. andBig Hand Road, about 3 miles N.E. of Richmond, Michigan. There seems to be much missingfrom this site. It isn't cared for, or at least by appearances, and there is quite a bitof damage to stones as well as missing stones. Some has sunk completely into the loosedirt so this list is in no way complete. I have provided info. on every available stoneleft standing and some that weren't. There is likely to be mistakes due to unreadable agedstones. I inquired at the Twp. Treasurer's office and she informed me that the recordswere given to the St. Clair County Historical Society in Port Huron, Michigan. I have notbeen able to speak with them regarding any of the information. But I hope that what ishere will help someone.
