Individual:
Research Notes: All we really know about Mr. Lowell (from Burrows family papers and traditions) is that he died at the age of 78 before about 1894. We estimated his birth year to be 1800, about 25 years before his daughter's. Likewise, Mrs. Lowell died at the age of 74. These are according to WHB's papers.
The various census records suggest ranges such as
Bet Jul, 1799 and Jul, 1800
Bet Aug, 1795 and Aug, 1796
for his birth. I am going with the death date in his son Ira's Bible and the birth date calculated from his age at death.4 Nov 20032:10:02According to D.R. Lowell, in 1846 he with wife and four youngest sons removed to Polo, Ogle Co., Ill. He was a Wesleyan Methodist.
SInce we believe Martha was born well before 1846, and ended up living in Polo, we can assume he took one or more daughters as well as 4 sons.
Further, that should probably be "four youngest surviving sons" since Ira died at the age of 16 in Brasher Falls, NY. This would set Ira's birthdate at before 1830.5 Mar 200016:19:02According to Jackie Drybread:
b. 1796, New Hampshire
1850 lived in Palmyra Twp, Lee, Illinois17 Mar 20020:45:57Carol Hayes says he was b. c. 1799. This is very close to our esitimate of 1800.17 Mar 20022:45:19According to personal papers and family oral history:
Martha's siblings were:
Amos Lowell
David Lowell
Mahalin? Lowell (the handwriting is unclear)
Mark Lowell
Mary Lowell
Nehemiah Lowell5 Mar 200014:46:45The D.R. Lowell's genealogy lists this family as:
1. Harrison
2. Mahalon
3. Marcus Wellington
4. Ira Almon
5. Amon, or Amos
6. David
7. Nehemiah
8. Mary
9. Martha
10. Silinda
Harrison, Ira, and Salinda are new. The others were known to us from family papers and oral history. We had Marcus merely as "Mark".5 Mar 200015:09:37Albert appears only in Jackie Drybread's data17 Mar 20021:55:50

- Title: Lowell Family Bible
Text: From: "Dan Ferris"

Subject: Lowell family
Jim,
The information I have been looking at through ancetry.com links
up to your family I believe. I notice there is some question as towhen Amos and Mary (Wakefield) Lowell died and when they wereborn. I have a family bible from Ira and Mary (Crenshaw) Lowellbegun in 1872 when they married. It shows a death date for Amos as15 Nov 1865 and that he was 71 years, 5 months and 12 days old. That would put him in about 1794 aprox.
The date for his wife Mary is 3 Dec 1873 ; age 74 years 7 months
and 5 days.
I do not know how to add this info to the data on line. I hope
this helps.
Sincerely
Dan Ferris
