Hello ... we are in the "Christmas Triangle" here ... where all time
and all promises get lost and rarely are found again. I am in the middleof several projects (genealogy and other); but here is the ancestry, atleast, of your John Curtis Bomar ...
His father was Henry J. Bomar, born at Knox County, Illinois, 1842;
died at Omaha, Nebraska, 1920; married Mary "Polly" (?Collins) Collins,born in Illinois, 1836, died 1910. Mary is something of a "problem." Several of us have tried to find proof for her parents and any evidence ofthe name of her first husband. (She apparently already had two sons,surname Collins, when she married Henry J. Bomar.)
Henry J. Bomar's father was Henry C. Bomar, presumably born at Hardin
County, Kentucky, 1811; died at Mills County, Iowa, 1884; and marriedEmelia Woolley, born in Kentucky or Indiana, 1819-23, died at MillsCounty, 1895. I am not sure about Emelia. Henry might have married twice... it even seems possible to me that he married Woolley sisters ... Atany rate, I don't know Emelia's parents.
My own Bomar ancestor was Frances M. Bomar (sister of Henry C.). She
married, had a bunch of kids, and they all went to California, about 1860.She and hubby split up and she married again, briefly. Then, late inlife, she went back to Knox County and married, third, John RedmanWoolley. It was his second marriage. His first wife--who produced manydescendants--was a sister of one of my own Bruner ancestors (another largeKnox County family). Anyhow, I suspect your Emelia and John RedmanWoolley were siblings ... though I have no evidence beyond circumstance. John Redman Woolley wrote on the later Knox County marriage applicationthat he was born at Hardin County, Kentucky, and that his parents wereRichard Bolton and Nancy (Hughes) Woolley. I suspect the Bomar andWoolley families had long known each other. The Bolton family also was alarge one; I don't know their relation to Woolley--but some Boltondescendants DID marry into Bomar-related families of Hardin-Hart-Larue.
At any rate ... Henry C. Bomar's parents were: Wilson Bomar, born in
Virginia, 1786; possibly died at Knox County, 1845 (or later, possiblyeven in Missouri); and married at Hardin County, 1806 Elizabeth Freeman,born in Kentucky 1787 and died, place unknown (to me), 1865. (I cannotfind Elizabeth in the 1840-50-60 censuses ... I thus suspect she re-married and is "hiding" under a different surname ... ) As you may know,the Hardin Clerk wrote our Wilson's name as "Bowman" on the marriage andin his index, and that spelling is in all secondary marriage records. Ibelieve I am the first modern descendant, at least, to go to the original(on film) and find the groom's signature: "Wilson Bomar." I have otherproofs, evidence, and circumstance for their marriage, children, etc.
I do not know the parents of either Wilson or Elizabeth. Wilson's
father MIGHT have been the Rev War vet John Bomar of Hardin (later Hart)County; and Elizabeth's father MIGHT have been a man named Thomas Freeman. I have spent a lot of time and effort attempting to figure this out ...but I have only circumstance ... NO proof or, even, good evidence.
There is a LOT of further-back-ancestry Bomar guesswork, wishful
thinking, etc., floating around via snail mail and, now, via the WWW. Much of it can be proved to be wrong. None of it (to my knowledge) can beproved to be right regarding our ancestors. If you ever come upon anyEVIDENCE regarding the parents of Wilson or Elizabeth, I would like to seeit. (And bits and pieces of my own research have been put up--always, tomy knowledge, with mistakes and wishful thinking thrown in--on several websites.)
I am in the process of indexing a part of my Bomar research that does
NOT include Wilson Bomar and descendants ... hope to get it done,photocopied, and out within a couple weeks. Then I hope to do same toWilson and descendants. I'll send along your piece of it when I do. Ithink that's what I sent you before ... but I can't find your snailaddress ... which, as I recall, I deduced after some effort ... So, ifyou don't mind, I would like your address.
In looking through your stuff again, I realized you have one or more
informants on the John Curtis Bomar family that are different than mine.Would you mind sending me their names and addresses? I have two or threeresearchers/addresses that I'll send back to you, if you are interested ..Date: 25 Aug 2002
