Individual:
Rosalie attended Nora school as well as other schools in
the Alcester area. She was confirmed at the Brule Creek
Lutheran Church. She raised nine children. On May 29, 2002, Brian Hass recalled that Rosalie was
known as Rosie and that she had worked as a bartender
at a rural business called Hopp's Inn. It was a bar and
gasoline station; which sold beer, soda, food and
gasoline. It was located about five miles south of
Beresford, SD at the intersection of what is now Union
County's 471 Avenue and Union County's 302 Street. This
station was eventually closed permanently and abandoned.
As of 2002, the boarded up building was still standing;
and, most local residents called it the "Five Mile
Station" and used it as a reference for giving directions. On May 29, 2002, Brian Hass recalled that Rosie was
hospitalized at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD
at the same time his mother, Myrna Hass, was hospitalized
there; and, that Rosie and Myrna occasionally phoned each
other from their respective hospital rooms. Info from Rosie's obituary.

and was known as "The Union County Republican."
The name was later changed to "The Union County
Republic" and then to "The Beresford Republic"
in 1898. It was Beresford's second newspaper.
No copies of issues that were published
before 1897 are known to exist. The volume
and issue numbers published on the front page
were sometimes inconsistent with those published
during the paper's earliest years and were
therefore unreliable. Publication dates are a
more reliable means of identifying specific issues.
