Census states that he and his children are living with his mother after the death of his wife.

Hardeman moved from Hernando, DeSoto Co., Mississippi to Chambers Creek, Ellis Co., Texas in 1855. He eventually became a prominent businessman and the town was frequently referred to as Forrest or as Forrest's Store. When the railroad was built through there in the early 1990's, he donated the land for the depot. At that time the town was renamed Forreston.
