Individual:
Asa Blanchard Snow was fatally injured at 4 o'clock on a Monda y afternoon when a 210 shotgun he was carrying on his tractor accidentl y discharged. The shot struck him in the breast, just above the heart . Asa had borrowed the shotgun from a neighbor with the intention of sho oting crows which were bothering some of his small chicks. The gun was o n the fender of his tractor and somehow slipped.
After he was shot he walked about 200 yards, before he fell. My father , Gerald, was with him. He ran to a nearby barn on the Oscar Churchwel l farm to get help. When he was found he was unconscious from a lack o f blood and shock. He was taken to the hospital in Shelbina where he die d 10 a.m. Tuesday.
The funeral was held at Mt. Zion Church in Macon Country. There is a chu rch cemetery nearby. The service was held on a Thursday afternoon at 2:3 0 p.m.
An Interesting note - the 1880 Census lists a farm by the name of Asa Bla nchard who lived near Rumsey. More than likely Asa Snow was named afte r this man. The Census information follows:
