The family of William Carr donated to Water Valley, MS the grounds on wh i ch stand the Water Valley Grammar School, a Masonic Lodge, and the Oa k Hi ll Cemetery. Donated land for the courthouse, a Railroad Hotel and t he Ri ght-of-Way for the Mississippi Central RR. Was appointed Postmaste r of W ater Valley, Yalobusha Co., MS 27 Jul 1848. Adapted from Godspee d Memoir s of Mississippi: Water Valley began its growth in the early 1 830s.
William A. Carr had the first store and blacksmith shop and was the fir s t postmaster. Lewis Lawshe, whose wife was a sister of William A. Carr , J r.'s wife, also came about this time, as did E. F. Crisp. Henry Car r an d William Carr's land originally extended from Honeycutt to Velma. T hey l ater sold land to Henry Hill. The next to build after Hill was Mr . Hendri cks.
