Individual:
Arsineus was born in Baden, Germany, and when a young man came to the
United States, settling in Huron, Ohio, where he worked at theshoemaker's trade, which he had learned in Germany. He lived thereuntil about 1845, when he bought the farm in Peru township. Theimprovements upon the place were of a very primitive characterconsisting of a log house and log barn, and the land was nearly allcovered with timber. With resolute spirit, such as was shown by thepioneers who faced the hardships and privations of frontier life,Arsineus began clearing the place, cutting away the trees, grubbing upthe stumps and clearing away the brush until he transformed the landinto productive fields. From time to time he made substantialimprovements and his property became one of the excellent farms of thelocality. At all times he was progressive in his citizenship andcooperated in many movements for the general good.
