    F) `Arsineus BISHOPmarried
    1812-1884
Arsineus was born in Baden, Germany, and when a young man came to the
United States, settling in Huron, Ohio, where he worked at the shoemaker's trade,
which he hadlearned in Germany. He lived there until about 1845, when he bought
the farm inPeru township. The improvements upon the place were of a very
primitive characterconsisting of a log house and log barn, and the land was nearly all
covered withtimber. With resolute spirit, such as was shown by the pioneers who
faced thehardships and privations of frontier life, Arsineus began clearing
the place, cutting away the trees, grubbing up the stumps and clearing away the
brush untilhe transformed the land into productive fields. From time to time he
made substantialimprovements and his property became one of the excellent farms of
the locality. Atall times he was progressive in his citizenship and cooperated in
    many movementsfor the general good.
