Individual: David's name appeared on the 1800 census in *Rutherford County , NC as 25 years of age or under with a female at the same age bracket, and a female under 10 years of age. His brother, Joseph Jackson Welch, Sr ., was my father's second great uncle and was mentioned in The Heritage of Swain County , North Carolina, 1988, Article Number 416. It appears that Joseph and his younger brother, David Alexander Welch ( 1779 -1816) were responsible for most of the Welches in my lineage in and around Swain County, NC. He and his wife, Catherine Deck, were among the early settlers of Macon County , NC, and listed as charter members of the Cowee Baptist Church. His son, Joseph Jackson Welch, Jr., was born on Ju115, 1814 in Buncombe County , NC. He married Catherine Masina Sherrill, (1815- act 28, 1894) and raised a large family in Macon and Swain Counties. Joseph, Jr. was a farmer and blacksmith in 1850 in Macon County , NC, and appeared on the census in 1850 in Macon County .He died on Dec 11, 1893 in Swain County , NC. Joseph, Jr. and his wife, Catherine Sherrill Welch were buried in Cold Springs Baptist Church Cemetery , Swain County , NC. *Rutherford County , NC came into existence in 1779 during the American Revolution. According to Duane Oliver, in his book Remembered Lives, David Alexander Welch I, took his wife and family to TN-KY-IL & back to TN where he died, but his wife & 2 sons joined the boys' uncle, Joseph, in Macon Co., NC & one of the sons, David A. Welch II had 2 kids who married 2 of Moses & Patience's kids, their cousins.

They were reportedly in Lincoln, KY (Barrens Co.) for awhile, and were in Illinois in 1806 and in TN in 1816. (According to notes from Carolyn Welch Brintnall)[DavidAlexanderWelch.Sr.FTW]
