Notes
Individual:
Killed at Vicksburg during the Civil War; buried "Soldier's Rest" Cemetery.

George only had one child, a daughter, born to Nancy Blackstock (oldest child or his father, Kendred Blackstock by his first wife). Nancy died in Atlanta but did not want to be buried at Oakland Cemetery, where other family members were buried (because black folks were buried there, she said). Her son-in-law, Frank Hilburn, an Atlanta mortician, observed her wishes to be buried in the Old Decatur Cemetery. At a later date, some of the other family members were disinterred from Oakland and moved to Decatur.

Listed on the 1860 Fulton County Census in Atlanta, aged 29, working as a clerk, with one child aged 11.

At the time of his death in Vicksburg, George was a 4th Sergeant in company E., 56th Regiment. Georgia Archives records show that he enlisted for a three-year period; was wounded in the trenches at Vicksburg on June 10, and died on July 10, 1863.
