James was a horseman in Capt. William Young's Company, Col. Brandon's regiment in the Revolutionary War, serving 126 days between December 1780 and May 1781. (DAR Line #580591)

James was listed in the 1790-1800 Census in Greenville, South Carolina and then in Hall County, Georgia in 1820. By the time of the 1830 Census, he had moved to DeKalb County, Georgia.

He is listed in Greenville, South Carolina deed book D, page 470, dated January 16, 1798 - James Blackstock to William Pereythe, Indenture dated February 4, 1777 for fifteen pounds, lands on the waters of Grove Creek, 100 acres. Numerous other deeds in Greenville, South Carolina and Jackson and Hall counties, Georgia evidence his name.
