Notes 
Individual:
George W. Scripps bought out The Schuyler Democrat in 1855, renamed it The Schuyler Citizen and made it the first Republican newspaper in Rushville. Scripps continued the publication of the paper until the spring of 1882 when he sold it. At that time he moved to Detroit and, for the remainder of his life, was attached to the staff of The Detroit Evening News. From 1869 to 1882 he served as the postmaster for Rushville.
