Mary was buried in Sarnia with her sons, Alexander and Robert. Also buried at this site are Helen Neil, Alexander's 1st wife, Jane Sym, Alexander's 2nd wife, Mary Mackenzie, Alexander's daughter who was married to Rev. John Thompson. There is a discrepancy in the birth and death dates for Mary. The gravestone indicates she died Feb. 16, 1861 and that she was 66 years old. That indicates a birth date of about 1795. The census of the same year based on August date states that on her next birthday she would be 65. Yet, she had already passed away in February.
Mary's gravestone has the following inscription:

RELIC OF ALEXANDER MACKENZIE
OF PERTHSHIRE, SCOTLAND
CAME TO CANADA WITH HER FAMILY OF SEVEN SONS, AD 1847
AND DIED IN SARNIA 16 FEB. 1861 AGED 66 YEARS
