Individual:
Arrived in NY in 1670-71. Lewis Morris, son of Richard Morris and Sarah Pole, was orphaned as an infant and raised by his uncle, also Lewis Morris, who was sometime Chief Justice of New York.
First Lord of the Manor of Morrisania in 1697.
The youner Lewis Morris inherited his uncle's estates in the Bronx and named it Morrisania. The younger Lewis Morris also went on to become Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New York in 1715, and Governor of New Jersey in 1738.
He died at 'Kingsbury' near Trenton, NJ and was buried at the Morrisania estate.
His son Lewis inherited Morrisania as Second Lord of the Manor, while the New Jersey estates went to Robert Hunter Morris.
