Individual:
The Travels of the Near FamilyHis (Conrad Near, Sr.) son, Conrad Jr., was placed in another home, and he and his uncle Philip Empie were captured by indians while catching horses in a pasture. Phillip was able to escape, but Conrad Jr. was taken to Montreal and was placed with a widow until the end of the war. After his marriage to Anna Nancy Fox he was found in Oneida County, NY., as stated by the baptismal records of his 3 youngest children. The 1820 census has them in Madison County, N.Y. while in the 1830 they are found in the town of Vernon, Oneida County, NY. Deeds show them to be in Chautauqua County, NY. by 1833 where they lived for awhile. Finally they settled in Livingston County Michigan where they both died surrounded by all their children except the oldest John Conrad who remained in Chautauqua County. NY.Conrad's wife Anna Nancy was known as Nancy in the census while their 1st born daughter was called just Anna. I don't know if she was handicapped or not, seems she was the only daughter not married. As you can see by the paperwork I sent you they travelled North from Montgo. county to madison county, back to Oneida, then to Crawford County Pa., ending up in Chautauqua County in 1833-34, then to Michigan with their 1st born John C. following them until they left for Mich. John stayed in NY as Tammy's sisters lived near by and he was in business with Edward Hollenbeck, Mary's husband John went to see Conrad after tammy died, but got lonely for her and the kids and came back to Chautauqua where he died. go to. http://www.rootsweb.com/nychaut/CEMETERY/Fluvanna5.htm and you will see the big Near plot with John, Tammy and most of the kids buried there and their wives and husbands. I printed it out and it is 18 pages longAbove Information from Bud Neer, 2003 Conrad and Nancy owned over 800 acres of land in Tyrone township in Livingston County, with ANOTHER man. The land is in section 1, 11, and 12, which come together at the corner like this 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 7, 8, 9, 0, 1, 2 (the zero after 9 being 10, then 11, then 12. It was the only way I could do it so they would line up right. Now the strange thing is that Tyrone Township is in the upper right hand corner of Livingston Co. and Hamburg Township in the lower right hand corner of Livingston, and one township to the left.
