Individual:
I have known his name, marriage data, children, place of burial and the dates from his gravestone since 1966 when this was sent to us by Aunt Nellie Becker. She also sent us the names and approximate spouses of his three sisters. Their death certificates confirmed his parents names. We visited his grave in 1967. Our first clue to his being born in MO came from his son s 1900 census. His widow Frances s obituary mistakenly calls him Edward.

- Text: William H Alvis tombstone, Brighton IL Cemetery, visited and pho
tographed 31 Aug 1966 by Kathy and Arta Sue Alvis. Photo and transcription, Beginnings File.
- Text: William Alvis death notice, Xerox copy of undated and unidentifi
ed newspaper clipping, probably the Democrat, made by IL State Historical Society, William & James Alvis File, also in Documentation File. Brighton. ED. DEM. We also notice Mr. Solon Ferguson an old citizen of this place, from Indiana. He came to attend the funeral of his brother-in-law. The cerebro spinal meningitis has finally made its appearance among us. William Alvis was taken with a violent chill while on his way home from church on Sunday, and in a short time became so crazy no one could do anything with him. He gradually grew worse until eleven o clock Friday night when death came to his relief. The Drs. of this place are busy, some of them night and day. Dr. Ash reports a great deal of sickness in and around Medora and Plasa. He has just reached home from Medora, and says that the probablilities are that there will be four deaths with this disease there before morning (Tuesday.)
