OBITUARY: South Bend Tribune: Services for Max I. Beard, 68, of 1618 Arden

Place, Joliet, Ill., formerly of South Bend, who died at 1:15 Friday in his
home, will be at 3 p.m. Monday in the Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home. Burial will be
in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger [Indiana]. Friends may call from 1
to 3 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. He was a World War II Army veteran and a
1942 Purdue graduate. He was a former employee of Oliver Corp. in South Bend,
and he retired from the Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Joliet [Illinois]. He was
born March 10, 1920, in Grass Creek, Ind. He lived in South Bend for several
years. On May 9, 1942, in New Carlisle, he married Mabel Bennett, who
survives. Also surviving are a daughter, a son, and two brothers, Miles of
Mishawaka and Bruce of Lakeville.
