William E. Smith
Aug. 22, 1919 - Nov. 1, 1990
WESTVILLE - Services for William E. "Pops" Smith, 71, of New Durham Estates,
who died at 4:50 a.m. Thursday at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital,
Chicago, after an illness, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Weaver Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Westville Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday
at the funeral home, where American Legion Post 21 will conduct a service at 7
p.m. Mr. Smith was a retired press operator for Studebaker. He was born Aug 22,
1919, in New Carlisle, living most of his lifetime in the area. On Dec. 24,
1947, in South Bend, he married Hazel I. Lichtenbarger. She died June 30, 1989.
Surviving are four daughters, Billie Ann Clements of Mishawaka, Jo Ellen
Cornelius of Anaheim, Calif., Barbara Keller Martin of LaPorte and Doris Smith
of Baltimore, Md.; a son, Robert H. "Smitty" of Westville; 12 grandchildren; a
great-grandchild; two sisters, Dorothy Kolczynski and Doris Charles, both of
South Bend; and a brother, Gerald of Buchanan. He was a member of Westville
United Methodist Church, Westville American Legion Post 21 and Westville VFW,
