Henry Faires - Elinor Vore
Henry Faires was born on March 26, 1799, in Washington Co, Ohio. His parents were John and Jane Hagerman Faires. We know that John andJane were in Senica Twp, Guernsey Co, in 1811, and that in 1799, GuernseyCo was part of Washington Co. So, whether or not Henry was born in whatis now Guernsey Co, we can't be sure. Henry was the 4th of 14 children. He married Elinor Vore in Guernsey Co, on March 31, 1826. His brother,David, had married Sarah Vore on July 18, 1815. It is presumed thatSarah and Elinor were sisters.
Henry and Elinor had four children: Samuel,1822; Charlotte, my gr gr grandmother, 1827 - 1902; J. Cyrus, 1836 - 1907; and Benjamin, 1839 -1857.
Henry must have followed his father south. In 1830, he was listed on the census as being in Bern Twp, Athens Co, Oh as was his father. Onerecord indicates that he moved to the Glouster (Wrightstown) area, whichis NW of Bern Twp, but still in Athens Co.
Henry is reported to have died young, about 1840. We looked for his gravesite at the Wrightstown Cem which is now in Homer Twp, Morgan Co. We did not find graves for either he or Elinor, but Benjamin and J. Cyrusare buried there. According to Benjamin's tombstone, he was born in1839, ao Henry was alive then. No more is known of Henry or Elinor.
An interesting note: Elinor was my gr grandmother's (Ella Plummer Porter) grandmother. My mother (Ella) was supposedly named after hergrandmother (Ella). However, Enolia, my mother's sister, told me thatElla Porter once denied to her that Ella, my mother, was named after her. This is interesting and important because there is a book, "Descendentsof Richard and Elizabeth (Ewen) Talbott", that list the children ofRobert and Charlotte Faires Plummer in order of birth. Where Ella wouldappear, the name is Elinor. This all leads me to believe that grgrandmother Porter's given name was Elinor, and that Ella was aderivative or nickname.
